We are the only iwi-owned Māori health research centre in Aotearoa New Zealand. Our vision is to transform Māori lives through excellent research.

Whakauae operates under Ngā Tikanga o Whakauae, a set of principles which we draw upon to guide our day-to-day business and how we work with funders, partners, and research participants. Our principles draw upon values laid down by Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Hauiti for all groups working under that mantle of the iwi. The iwi values are mana, rangatiratanga, kaitiakitanga, manaaki tangata and whanaungatanga.
