Who We Are

Barwaaqo University is the only women’s university in Somaliland, changing the face of primary education across the country. We are training young women to become the most highly-skilled primary school teachers in Somaliland, and in our first six years of operations we’ve already made huge progress on this goal. 90% of our graduates are finding full time employment within three months of graduation.

Our students are often the first in their families to attend university, and 25% of our students come from families where neither parents attended any school whatsoever. Barwaaqo believes in providing a holistic education for our students, where they are developing academic skills while also being exposed to a wide range of leadership opportunities, social-emotional learning, and extracurriculars.
