Beamish Museum is a word-famous open air museum, where our people and collections bring to life the everyday history of the 1820s, early 1900s, 1940s and now the 1950s.

The museum is the North East’s most visited attraction, with a reputation for a first-class visitor experience, we welcomed 801k visitors last year. As an anchor cultural institution, we are proud to be a leading light in the region’s exceptional cultural and tourism offer, working with regional partners to drive visitor footfall into the region.

With a profile that reaches regionally, nationally and internationally, Beamish was recently described as a social history museum that is “one of the finest and most innovative in Europe” by The Guardian, which also named us among 12 of the Best Things to Do and See an in the UK this year. We’ve also been recently featured in The Times, national BBC and ITV TV, Radio 4 and Radio 5 Live.
