KMET is a local NGO based in Kisumu that has been responding to violence against women and girls especially Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), in Western Kenya. Due to limited safe spaces, as last resort, often survivors have no choice but to accept temporary solutions offered by their families or among relatives within the community, an arrangement which is yet to be safe and functional for both survivors and partners supporting them.

KMET has hence established a shelter known as the KMET Freedom House that addresses the safety and security of survivors at its premises in Tom Mboya Estate, Kisumu County. We offer protection to GBV survivors whose lives are in danger from the perpetrators and a safe space for referrals of GBV to all the actors along with the referral and response pathway in Kisumu and beyond.
