The Aquatic Ecosystems Branch provides Provincial leadership, regulatory oversight, policy direction, implementation guidance and coordination for the sustainable management of the fish and aquatic resources of British Columbia. The Provincial Fisheries Policy and Allocation section supports the Director with statutory decisions under the Wildlife Act and contributes substantially to intergovernmental issues associated with provincial authorities enabled by the federal Fisheries Act.

The B.C. recreational freshwater fishery delivers world class recreational opportunities to approximately 300, 000 British Columbians and visitors each year while contributing over $200M to B.C.’s GDP.
