The Deputy Sheriff I is a uniformed position within the Department of Justice and Public Safety, considered a “Position of Trust” and is a designated as a Peace Officer pursuant to Section 2 of the Criminal Code of Canada. The Deputy Sheriff I officer reports directly to the Deputy Sheriff II Supervisor and works in all levels of the Law Courts in Newfoundland and Labrador. Incumbents are frontline officers who ensure the effective and safe operation of the court system and are responsible for the safety and security of all who participate within it (Judges, staff, legal counsel, victims of crime, accused persons and prisoners).
