Job summary

The Sanctions and Asia Pacific Team (SAPT) provides all legal advice to Sanctions Directorate, South-East Asia and Pacific Directorate and North East Asia and China Directorate. It is led by two SCS1 Legal Counsellors who are jointly responsible for setting and delivering team priorities.

In this role, you will, subject to any future adjustments to the allocation of responsibilities, be accountable for the team’s provision of advice on the following areas:
• sanctions litigation;
• advice on UN and UK autonomous geographical and thematic regimes;
• advice to South East Asia and Pacific Department, including an International Court of Justice intervention;
• advice on the seizure or use of assets in accordance with international law;
• On Mondays and Tuesdays, while covering for the other Joint Head, advise on sanctions legislation, on the Russia and Belarus autonomous sanctions regimes, and advice to China Department.
